The American news giant Cable Network News International has great influence in the African continent especially in Nigeria because of its reach in the country and the fact that ‘CNN’ as it is fondly called in Nigeria has become a household name which news is genuinely relied on by Nigerians.

The news giant CNN Africa released a video on Twitter today bordering on the growth of the Nigeria movie industry which value has rose dramatically to about 239 billion Naira, an equivalence of 650 million dollars.

“Nigerian film has grown into a 239 billion Naira industry ($658 million) and grabbed global attention” the statement that accompany the video reads in part.

In the latter part of the statement CNN Africa has indicated that the new generation of the Nollywood filmmakers are doing everything professionally possible to move the achievements of the industry “to the next level”.

The “next level” phrase is the campaign slogan of the Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressive Congress Party in the forthcoming 2019 presidential elections holding in February and the use of the “next level” by CNN Africa can be interpreted as a subtle way of approving the President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign.

Social media and big news organisations the world over have a way of influencing elections in the way they report political issues especially during electioneering periods.

Using the “next level” phrase in a reporting that has to do with Nigeria during this election period can only be seen as a way of supporting the Buhari campaign.
