When AIDS was first ‘discovered’ in the late 80’s many were scared to the bone because it was believed that AIDS could spread easily and was considered a big threat to the human race with little or minimal understanding of the disease and how fast it can spread from persons to persons.

The World Health Organisation WHO has Sunday released some facts about AIDS and the journey so far with the fight against the deadly disease, stating that AIDS has not been very easy to defeat over the years.

Persons who has acquired the disease since the AIDS epidemic started were put to about 70 million.

Persons that have died from the AIDS virus stands at about 35 million since the begining of the epidemic till date.

Persons who are living with the AIDS all over the world at the moment amounts to about 37 million.

Persons currently undergoing treatment for AIDS the world over are about 22 million.

Persons who still die of AIDS annually for not knowing that they have the HIV and are not treated or those that start treatment late are about 1 million.

The fight against the HIV AIDS virus has remain difficult for 30 years because of marginalization and stigmatization of persons affected with the HIV AIDS virus.
