Free eye surgery for 200 persons at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, Abia State

Cataract is a common condition that causes blur vision and if not treated could lead to complete loss of vision. The condition causes the clear lens of the eye to become cloudy making it difficult for reading and other related activities.

Surgeons at the Federal Medical Centre FMC Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria today Monday commenced free eye surgery for persons suffering from cataract. Last week, screening of persons affected with cataract were carried out in preparation for the free surgery that has been bill to hold from Monday to Friday this week.

The free cataract surgery is sponsored by the Federal Government to give persons who may have no financial means to privately access the operation benefit from it. This is a good gesture from the President Muhammadu Buhari administration and it is also planned to hold in other states of the federation.

The surgery is targeted at between 150 – 200 persons and will be concluded Friday 30, November 2018; as at today, a number of persons has been operated on successfully and they are in good condition.
